A 34-year-old man was found dead near the lobby of a condominium along Jalan Bundusan on Friday after he is believed to have fallen from the 26th floor of the building.
The victim was discovered lying on the road in critical condition before being pronounced dead at the scene.
Penampang District Police Chief Superintendent Sammy Newton said preliminary investigations indicate that the man is believed to have fallen from a residential unit located on the 26th floor of the condominium.
A joint examination carried out by officers from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Penampang District Police Headquarters and the forensic team from the Sabah Police Contingent Headquarters found no signs of foul play linked to the incident.
“Investigations conducted at the scene did not reveal any criminal elements associated with the case,” he said in a statement on Friday night.
The victim’s body has been sent to the Forensic Medicine Department at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the exact cause of death.
Police have classified the case as a sudden death report pending the outcome of the post-mortem and further investigations.
Authorities have urged the public to refrain from making speculation that could interfere with the investigation. Members of the public have also been advised not to circulate photographs or videos of the incident out of respect for the victim’s family and loved ones.
The investigation remains ongoing while police await the results of the forensic examination.
