Housewife Loses Family Savings Of RM95,715 In Fake Part-Time Job Scam Linked To Facebook Ad

Date:

A housewife’s attempt to earn extra income for her family ended in heartbreak after she was allegedly cheated out of RM95,715.40 in a non-existent part-time job scam.

The 37-year-old woman lodged a police report at the Kuala Terengganu District Police Headquarters at approximately 6.02pm on Thursday after realising she had fallen victim to the syndicate.

Kuala Terengganu District Police Chief ACP Azli Mohd Noor said the victim first came across a part-time job advertisement on Facebook while at home on May 8.

According to police, she clicked on a link in the advertisement and was subsequently contacted by an individual claiming to be a company representative.

Enticed by promises of lucrative earnings, the woman was then added to a Telegram group where she began receiving tasks and instructions related to the purported job opportunity.

Initially, the scheme appeared genuine after she successfully completed two assignments and received a commission payment of RM85.

The early payout convinced the victim that the opportunity was legitimate, prompting her to continue participating in additional tasks and follow instructions provided by the suspects.

Azli said the woman was later directed to make a series of payments as part of the programme.

Between May 8 and May 18, she transferred a total of RM95,715.40 into seven different bank accounts provided by the syndicate.

However, after making the payments, she failed to receive any further commissions or returns despite completing the assigned tasks.

Realising she had been deceived, the victim sought police assistance.

Authorities continue to warn the public to exercise caution when responding to online job advertisements, particularly those promising unusually high returns or requiring upfront payments before commissions can be withdrawn.

Investigations into the case are ongoing.
