Malaysia’s strong diplomatic ties and political stability have enabled the country to maintain a steady supply of oil and gas despite growing uncertainty caused by the global energy crisis, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.
He said Malaysia’s balanced foreign policy has strengthened relations with major nations, including Russia and Turkmenistan, allowing the country to be viewed as a trusted and reliable partner on the international stage.
Sharing details of his recent official visit to Turkmenistan, Anwar revealed that the Central Asian nation had expressed its willingness to collaborate with Petronas in operating one of the world’s largest gas fields.
According to the Prime Minister, Malaysia’s approach of maintaining friendly relations with all countries, including the United States and China, has helped enhance the nation’s standing while ensuring access to strategic resources.
He said the country’s political stability has also played a crucial role in boosting investor confidence and enabling the government to focus on long-term development plans without unnecessary disruptions.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the Sabah Southern MADANI Link project, Anwar stressed that a stable political environment remains essential for attracting foreign investments and driving economic growth.
The Prime Minister noted that the world is currently facing significant challenges due to energy supply disruptions linked to ongoing conflicts in West Asia, which have affected shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz and pushed global oil prices higher.
He said several countries, including some within ASEAN, have been forced to take drastic measures due to fuel shortages, with hundreds of petrol stations reportedly shutting down operations.
Despite the global uncertainty, Anwar said Malaysia has managed to keep fuel prices affordable, adding that the government remains committed to protecting the people from rising living costs while ensuring energy security for the nation.
