A silat trainee has claimed trial at the Sessions Court after being charged with publishing a Facebook post allegedly containing seditious remarks and insulting the institution of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Raden Mohd Azrul Amirulla, 36, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before Judge Tasnim Abu Bakar.
According to the charge sheet, Raden allegedly uploaded the post through his personal Facebook account, with the offence said to have been detected at the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) office on December 23, 2025, at approximately 2.30pm.
He was charged under Section 4(1)(c) of the Sedition Act 1948, which carries a maximum penalty of a RM5,000 fine, imprisonment of up to three years, or both upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Shakila Mohd Shariff proposed bail of RM8,000 with one surety and requested that the accused surrender his passport to the court until the case is concluded.
However, defence counsel Farhanna Roslan appealed for a lower bail amount, arguing that her client works as a traditional medicine practitioner and silat trainee, earning between RM4,000 and RM6,000 monthly while supporting his mother and six children.
She also pointed out that the maximum fine under the charge is RM5,000 and argued that the proposed bail should not be excessive.
“My client has cooperated fully with police throughout the investigation,” she told the court, adding that the accused resides in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
After hearing submissions from both parties, the court granted bail of RM5,000 with one surety.
The judge also ordered Raden to surrender his passport to the court and fixed July 13 for the next case mention.
The case is expected to attract attention due to its connection to allegations involving online content and the institution of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
