Man Caught On CCTV Allegedly Stealing Nine Black Thorn Durians Worth RM761

Date:

A man has been accused of stealing nine Black Thorn durians worth S$240 (RM761) from a fruit shop in western Singapore in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The alleged theft was captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and later shared on Facebook by Hojiak Durian & Fruits.

According to the footage, the incident occurred at around 3.40am at the shop located at Block 351, Jurong East Street 31.

The video showed a man wearing a dark green T-shirt and cream-coloured shorts approaching a basket filled with durians, some of which were covered with a blue canvas sheet.

After looking around to ensure the coast was clear, the suspect was seen placing several durians into a plastic bag before leaving the premises.

The shop owner told local media that the man allegedly made off with nine Black Thorn durians, one of the premium durian varieties sold in Singapore.

The total value of the stolen fruits was estimated at S$240.

According to the owner, the suspect was not a stranger and had visited the shop in the past, although he had not been seen there for more than a year.

“If he was genuinely facing difficulties and wanted to eat durians, he could have just told us.

“We would have gladly treated him to a few durians,” the owner said.

The owner also revealed that the shop has been targeted by theft on several occasions over the past five years, particularly during the durian season.

“Sometimes when stock levels are high, people take one or two durians.

“But this man took nine at once. He even went to get a plastic bag before coming back. That was simply too much,” he said.

The incident has since attracted attention online, with many netizens expressing surprise over the theft involving one of the region’s most sought-after durian varieties.
