A police officer was charged in the Magistrate’s Court here today for allegedly possessing methamphetamine inside the lock-up at the Kota Bharu Court Complex last week.
The accused, Mohammad Fadhirul Musa, 38, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before Magistrate Rais Imran Hamid.
He is accused of possessing 19.8 grammes of methamphetamine at the lock-up facility at about 8.29am on June 8.
The charge was framed under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries punishment under Section 39A(1) of the same Act, providing for imprisonment of up to five years and up to nine strokes of the cane upon conviction.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Muhamad Nadzir Abdullah, while the accused was represented by lawyers Mohd Azrizal Hamzi and Muhammad Husni Mubarak Ghazali.
During proceedings, the prosecution proposed bail of RM5,000 with one surety.
However, the defence appealed for a lower bail amount, citing that the accused has a wife and four school-going children to support.
The court allowed bail at RM3,500 with one surety and fixed July 30 for mention of the case.
