Police have referred the investigation papers relating to an armed brawl at a business premises in Jinjang Utara to the Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) for further action and possible charges.
Sentul District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Basri Sagoni said the investigation papers were submitted on Friday, while the remand orders for 13 suspects previously arrested have been extended until June 23.
“For the 13 individuals currently in custody, the investigation papers have been referred to the DPP today for consideration of charges.
“There are still five more identified individuals who are being actively traced to assist in the investigation,” he said when contacted on Friday.
The case stems from a violent altercation involving a group of armed individuals at a business premises in Jinjang Utara on June 11.
Police successfully arrested 13 men aged between 18 and 51 within 12 hours of the incident through a series of raids conducted across Kuala Lumpur.
The operation was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Sentul District Police Headquarters with assistance from the Kuala Lumpur Contingent Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Department.
Authorities launched the investigation after the Sentul District Control Centre received a MERS 999 emergency call from a member of the public at approximately 3.27pm on the day of the incident.
Videos of the confrontation later circulated widely on social media, drawing public attention to the case.
Police are investigating the incident under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting while armed with weapons and Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using dangerous weapons.
Investigations are ongoing as authorities continue efforts to locate the remaining suspects believed to be linked to the incident.
