A 29-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a collision involving a three-tonne lorry carrying a load of fish outside a factory in Batang Kali early Thursday morning.
The fatal accident prompted an emergency response after the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department received a distress call at about 5.09am.
Assistant Director of Operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said 12 firefighters from the Kuala Kubu Bharu Fire and Rescue Station, assisted by personnel from the Bukit Sentosa station, were dispatched to the scene located approximately 21 kilometres away.
Upon arrival at 5.39am, rescue personnel found that the crash involved a Yamaha Avantis motorcycle and a fish transport lorry.
The 60-year-old lorry driver was trapped inside the vehicle with injuries to his legs but remained conscious when firefighters reached the scene. Meanwhile, the 45-year-old lorry attendant had sustained injuries and was taken to hospital by members of the public before emergency crews arrived.
Firefighters carried out rescue operations to free the trapped driver before handing him over to ambulance personnel for further treatment.
The motorcyclist, however, was pronounced dead at the scene by Ministry of Health personnel due to severe injuries sustained in the collision.
The victim’s body was subsequently handed over to the police for further investigation. Authorities are continuing to probe the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
The incident serves as another reminder of the dangers faced by road users during early morning hours when visibility and road conditions can increase accident risks.
