KL Police Bust Luxury Condo Used As Fake Forex Scam Call Centre

Date:

Police in Kuala Lumpur have raided a luxury condominium unit in Wangsa Maju suspected of operating a fraudulent online investment call centre offering fake forex schemes.

The operation was carried out at about 11am today by the KL Police Strike Force following public tip-offs and intelligence gathering on suspicious activities at the residential property.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said nine Chinese nationals and one local man were found inside the unit located on the 17th floor of the residence during the raid.

He said police also discovered laptops, mobile phones and other equipment believed to have been used in the call centre setup to carry out investment scam activities.

Preliminary investigations revealed that all nine Chinese nationals, believed to be in their 30s, were involved in a foreign exchange investment scam targeting victims in China.

Authorities believe the call centre had been operating since early May, deceiving victims through online fraudulent investment schemes.

Police also detained a local man believed to be working as a daily food delivery runner for the foreign suspects.

Fadil said investigations are ongoing to identify the property owner, the rental arrangement, and any agents or syndicates involved in bringing the foreign nationals into the country.

The case is being investigated by the Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) in Kuala Lumpur.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in their surroundings to assist police in combating online scam syndicates.

Police said the suspects were believed to have rarely left the premises in order to avoid drawing attention from nearby residents, while daily necessities were supplied by the local suspect who was also arrested.
