The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning involving heavy rain and strong winds across five states until 7pm today.
According to MetMalaysia, the affected states are Kelantan, Terengganu, Johor, Sarawak and Sabah, with several districts expected to experience adverse weather conditions within the warning period.
In Kelantan, the affected areas include Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Bachok and Pasir Puteh, while in Terengganu, Kuala Nerus and Kuala Terengganu are included in the warning zone.
In Johor, Mersing and Kota Tinggi are expected to be affected, while in Sarawak, Kuching, Serian, Samarahan and Betong are among the areas at risk.
Meanwhile in Sabah, several areas along the west coast, including Papar, Putatan, Penampang, Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran and Kota Belud, are also expected to face severe weather conditions.
MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when signs indicate thunderstorms producing rainfall exceeding 20mm per hour, which are either occurring or expected to occur for more than an hour.
It added that thunderstorm warnings are short-term alerts, valid for up to six hours per issuance, and advised the public to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
