Jabatan Meteorologi Malaysia (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning involving heavy rain and strong winds across several areas in six states, including Sabah and Sarawak, valid until 3pm today.
According to MetMalaysia, the affected areas include Kuala Muda in Kedah; Barat Daya, Timur Laut and Seberang Perai Utara in Penang; Seremban, Port Dickson and Rembau in Negeri Sembilan, as well as the entire state of Melaka.
In Sarawak, the warning covers Kuching, Serian, Samarahan and Sri Aman, while in Sabah it involves Telupid, Beluran and Sandakan in the Sandakan Division, as well as Pitas and Kudat in the Kudat Division.
MetMalaysia said the warning is issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimetres per hour, which are expected to occur or continue for more than an hour.
It added that a thunderstorm warning is a short-term advisory, valid for a period not exceeding six hours per issuance.
Members of the public in the affected areas are advised to remain vigilant and stay updated with the latest weather information through official MetMalaysia channels.
