Pakatan Harapan (PH) candidate for the Yong Peng state constituency, Yong Hui Yi, has submitted an official complaint to the Election Commission (EC) over allegations that Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate Ling Tian Soon continued campaigning after the official campaign period ended.
Yong claimed that Ling and MCA Youth had uploaded campaign-related content on social media after the campaign deadline, which she alleged was against election regulations.
She said the material was posted in the early hours of polling day and included an appeal for voters to support Ling, who is the candidate listed as number one for the Yong Peng state seat.
According to Yong, the video also showed a sample ballot paper, which she claimed amounted to campaigning and an attempt to influence voters.
She said such actions by Ling and MCA Youth after the campaign period had officially ended were a violation of the EC’s regulations and reminders issued before polling day.
The DAP deputy publicity secretary said the EC had previously reminded all candidates and parties that campaign activities must stop before midnight on the eve of polling day, including campaigning on social media platforms such as Facebook, X, Instagram and TikTok.
Yong said she had submitted the complaint to the EC and called for an immediate investigation, urging authorities to take appropriate action against any parties found to have breached election rules.
She stressed that elections must be conducted in a fair, transparent and integrity-based manner, adding that any violation should not be ignored.
The New Straits Times has contacted Ling and MCA Youth for their response.
Separately, DAP’s Kasthuri Patto called on the EC and police to investigate another alleged election offence involving BN-MCA candidate for the Skudai state constituency, Nicole Tan.
In a Facebook post, Kasthuri claimed that a vehicle displaying campaign stickers linked to Tan was parked outside SMK Taman Tun Aminah on polling day, which she said was prohibited under election rules.
She urged the authorities to take action if the allegation was found to be a violation of election laws.
