Temporary Workers’ Accommodation Destroyed In Evening Fire

Date:

Two temporary workers’ accommodation blocks were completely destroyed after a fire broke out near a condominium along Jalan Tabuan Dayak here on Tuesday evening.

The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre spokesperson said the department received an emergency call at 6.58pm before firefighters from the Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue Station were deployed to the scene, supported by teams from the Batu Lintang and Padungan stations.

The fire involved three temporary workers’ housing blocks, with each structure measuring about 10 feet by 100 feet.

Two of the blocks were completely destroyed, while another suffered approximately 30 per cent damage in the incident.

“The firefighting operation was carried out using one hose reel line with a nozzle, along with three 200-foot water lines equipped with three nozzles.

“The assisting team from Batu Lintang Fire and Rescue Station also managed to establish a fire break from the opposite direction to prevent the flames from spreading to nearby residential areas,” the spokesperson said in a statement.

The workers’ quarters were believed to have been occupied by three foreign nationals, but all of them were not present at the location when the fire occurred.

No injuries were reported in the incident.

The firefighting operation was fully completed at 10.44pm.

A total of 28 firefighters, supported by three Fire Rescue Tender (FRT) vehicles and one Emergency Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) unit, were involved in the operation, with assistance from four Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) personnel.
