An Indonesian teacher has come under fire online after making several unverified claims about Malaysia while praising Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during what appeared to be a classroom session.
A video of the teacher speaking to a group of students was widely shared on Threads, where it quickly attracted attention from Malaysian social media users.
In the clip, the teacher claimed that Malaysia depends on Indonesia whenever it faces a shortage of rice.
He also alleged that Indonesia supplies Malaysia with its highest-quality rice at discounted prices.
“When Malaysia runs out of rice, they ask Indonesia for help. We even sell them our best rice at a low price,” he said.
However, the video did not provide any evidence or official sources to support the claims.
The teacher further alleged that several neighbouring countries were unhappy because Indonesia had begun exporting its resources directly instead of relying on intermediaries.
“Why should we use someone else’s door when we have our own?” he said.
He also urged his students not to speak negatively about Indonesia, claiming such remarks could later be used in news reports that tarnish the country’s image.
The video sparked widespread discussion online, with many Malaysian users questioning why Malaysia was brought into a lesson focused on President Prabowo and Indonesia’s development.
The user who shared the clip argued that the teacher could have highlighted Indonesia’s achievements without making comparisons involving Malaysia.
As of now, the claims regarding Malaysia’s rice imports and pricing remain unverified, with no supporting evidence presented in the video.
