A 13-year-old girl lost her life, while a teenage boy was injured after a fire destroyed a double-storey terraced house in Lorong 5 Permai Jaya, Tupong Ulu, in the early hours of Thursday.
The victim who died was identified as Nurmanisha Khamis, 13, while Mohd Rayyan Mohd Faizal was rescued from the burning house before being rushed to hospital for further treatment.
A spokesperson for the Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Centre said the department received an emergency call at 2.23am, prompting firefighters from the Petra Jaya Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) to respond with assistance from the Tabuan Jaya Fire and Rescue Station.
Upon arriving at the scene at 2.27am, firefighters found the permanent double-storey terraced house engulfed in flames, with about 70 per cent of the structure already destroyed.

Both victims were successfully brought out of the house and given emergency medical assistance before being handed over to Ministry of Health personnel.
However, the 13-year-old girl was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer, while the injured teenage boy was taken to hospital for further treatment.
The fire was brought under control at 3.14am, and the operation concluded at 3.40am. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
