28-Year-Old Woman Ends Up on IV Drip After Drinking Matcha

Date:

A woman has claimed she was hospitalized and placed on an intravenous (IV) drip after experiencing heart palpitations linked to her habit of drinking matcha tea.

According to The Mirror, Lynn Shazeen, 28, began drinking matcha about six months ago, consuming it at least once a week as part of her health routine.

However, after three months, the nurse said she started feeling extreme fatigue, chills, and irregular heartbeats, which eventually led her to seek hospital treatment.

“I never thought drinking matcha once a week could have this effect. As soon as I saw my iron levels drop drastically, I knew it was caused by matcha,” she said.

Following the scare, Lynn immediately stopped drinking matcha and switched back to regular tea.

But nutrition expert Dr Emma Beckett told 9honey she was skeptical about the claim, pointing out that drinking matcha in moderation is generally safe and unlikely to cause such issues.

She explained that iron deficiency is common among young women, often due to restrictive diets and blood loss during menstruation.

“What’s important is to avoid drinking tea when consuming iron-rich meals or supplements,” she added.

Dr Beckett also stressed that tea is a healthy beverage and people should not be discouraged from enjoying it based on isolated cases like this.
