Police seized 62 bitcoin mining machines during a raid on two shoplots at Persiaran SIBC 8, Bandar Seri Iskandar, on Thursday.
The operation, which began at 1.40pm, was carried out by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Perak Tengah District Police Headquarters (IPD) with the assistance of Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) Northern Region.
Perak Tengah police chief Superintendent Hafezul Helmi Hamzah said the raid followed intelligence and information regarding illegal electricity connections linked to cryptocurrency mining activities in Seri Iskandar.
During the operation, police confiscated 62 Avalon Miner bitcoin mining machines, two Huawei TD LTE internet routers, four desktop switches and two rolls of electrical cable.
Investigations found that both premises had been converted into bitcoin mining centres and were operating using illegal electricity connections without valid TNB electricity meters.
TNB estimated that electricity losses caused by the illegal operation amounted to approximately RM60,000.
Hafezul said no arrests have been made so far, while efforts are ongoing to trace those responsible and identify the owners of the premises.
The case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code and Section 37(1) of the Electricity Supply Act 1990.
