Two teenagers lost their lives while another remains in critical condition following a horrific crash involving three motorcycles in Kampung Pecah Rotan, Batu Rakit, Kuala Nerus, on Sunday evening.
The accident occurred at about 6.30pm along Jalan Kampung Pecah Rotan and involved a SYM BX110, a Yamaha Ego Avantiz and a Honda EX5. Road accidents involving young riders continue to raise concerns, with authorities urging motorists to remain vigilant and observe traffic safety at all times.
Kuala Terengganu District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Azli Mohd Noor said the rider of the SYM BX110, 17-year-old Muhamad Hazim Mohd Zawawi, who worked as a restaurant assistant, was travelling home to Kampung Mengabang Kapal from Kampung Pecah Rotan.
Meanwhile, 14-year-old Muhammad Rifqi Rayyan Abdul Rahim, a student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Batu Rakit, was riding his Yamaha Ego Avantiz from Batu Rakit towards Kampung Pecah Rotan.
The third rider, 15-year-old Muhammad Harris Iman Fadillah, was travelling on a Honda EX5 from Kampung Pecah Rotan to his home in Kampung Kubur Timah.
Preliminary investigations found that the Honda EX5 was struck from behind by the SYM BX110, causing it to lose control and veer into the opposite lane before colliding head-on with the oncoming Yamaha Ego Avantiz.
The impact proved fatal for Muhamad Hazim and Muhammad Rifqi Rayyan, who both suffered severe injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Muhammad Harris Iman sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Hospital Sultanah Nur Zahirah (HSNZ).
Police said the bodies of the two victims have been taken to the Forensic Medicine Unit at Hospital Sultan Zainal Abidin (HoSZA) for post-mortem examinations and further investigations.
Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
