Nur Jazlan Reappointed As Deputy President Of Dewan Negara

Senator Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed has been reappointed as the Deputy President of the Dewan Negara for a second term.

His unopposed nomination for the post was tabled by Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir on behalf of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim before the Senate’s question-and-answer session on Monday.

Earlier in the day, Nur Jazlan and Mussodak Ahmad were sworn in as Senators for their second terms before Dewan Negara President Datuk Awang Bemee Awang Ali Basah.

Nur Jazlan’s reappointment was made with the consent of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, and will run from 15 June 2026 until 14 June 2029.

Meanwhile, Mussodak’s appointment was endorsed by the Kedah State Legislative Assembly (DUN) and is effective from 20 March 2026 to 19 March 2029.

Nur Jazlan, 60, is an UMNO Supreme Council member and the Pulai UMNO division chief. He has served as Deputy President of the Dewan Negara since June 2023.

He previously served as Deputy Home Minister from 2015 to 2018 and was the Member of Parliament for Pulai between 2004 and 2018.

Mussodak, meanwhile, is the Kedah PAS secretary and has previously contested the Bayu and Guar Chempedak state seats. He was first appointed as a Senator representing the Kedah State Legislative Assembly in March 2023.

According to Parliament’s calendar, the Second Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 15th Parliament’s Dewan Negara sitting will run for 10 days, from 20 July until 4 August.
