A 77-year-old local man was killed after being struck by a four-wheel-drive vehicle while walking in Penampang early Tuesday.
District Police Chief Superintendent Sammy Newton said preliminary investigations found that the 4WD, driven by a 52-year-old local man, was travelling from Jalan Bundusan towards Taman Adamas when it allegedly hit the pedestrian.
The impact threw the victim into a roadside drain, leaving him with severe injuries.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer.
The victim’s body was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital I for a post-mortem examination.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
Police reminded motorists to ensure their vehicles are in good condition and to always drive carefully to help prevent road accidents.
