Two 14-Year-Old Students Found Dead At Abandoned Ipoh Flat

Date:

Two 14-year-old schoolgirls were found dead after they were believed to have fallen from the upper floors of an abandoned residential building at Flat Sungai Pari near Buntong, Ipoh, on Friday.

The incident came to light after a security guard conducting a routine patrol at the vacant housing complex discovered the victims and alerted the authorities.

The two girls, who were close friends, were students at the same secondary school in Ipoh and attended afternoon classes.

The mother of one of the victims, who wished to be known only as Seela, said she had dropped her daughter and the girl’s friend off at school from their home in Menglembu at about 1pm.

However, she received a phone call at around 4.50pm informing her that her daughter had been found at the abandoned housing complex.

“I managed to see her. She was still wearing her physical education uniform, the same clothes she had on when I sent her to school earlier.

“I don’t know why my daughter was there. As far as I know, she had never been to that place before,” she said when met at the scene.

Seela said she was still struggling to come to terms with the tragedy, adding that her daughter had never shown any unusual behaviour or spoken about problems at school.

“My daughter was a quiet person, but everything seemed normal. She never complained about school, and I sent and picked her up every day. I never imagined something like this could happen,” she said.

The bodies of both victims were taken to Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun (HRPB) for post-mortem examinations after forensic officers completed investigations at the scene.

Flat Sungai Pari, also known locally as “Sungai Pari Tower” or “Tingkat 15”, was once the tallest building in northern Malaya and a landmark in Ipoh due to its distinctive bowl-shaped rooftop.

The public housing project, which was built in 1963, has been vacated in stages since 2012 following concerns over the building’s structural safety.

Police are continuing investigations to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
