DAP deputy national chairman Nga Kor Ming has criticised the opposition for allegedly spreading misinformation and fuelling hatred, claiming such actions have contributed to toxic politics that could harm the country’s unity.
Nga, who is also Housing and Local Government Minister, said all Malaysians should prioritise national harmony and avoid narratives that could damage relations between different communities.
He urged the public to reflect on the shared history and cooperation built among Malaysians since independence in 1957, saying diversity has always been a key element in shaping the country’s identity.
“Diversity is the foundation that has formed the beauty of Malaysia since our independence in 1957,” he said during the “Kekal Harapan” dinner event at the Repah state constituency on Friday night.
His remarks came after PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang allegedly described DAP supporters from various ethnic backgrounds as immigrants, a statement that drew criticism from several political leaders.
Nga also hit out at PAS election director Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, accusing him of making statements with racial undertones that could create divisions within Malaysia’s multiracial society.
He said Malaysians have lived together and built the nation over the past seven decades, adding that the country should now move forward as one family based on mutual respect and understanding.
Nga said reports had already been lodged over the alleged statements and urged authorities to take appropriate action to protect racial harmony and national unity.
He also called on Negeri Sembilan voters to support a more constructive political approach that focuses on cooperation, stability and the well-being of all citizens regardless of race.
In highlighting the achievements of the Pakatan Harapan-led administration in Negeri Sembilan, Nga said the state recorded its highest investment value of RM19.1 billion, the highest state financial reserves of RM1.31 billion, record state revenue and four consecutive years of surplus budgets.
He added that various assistance programmes had also been introduced for senior citizens, single mothers, university students, newly married couples and newborns, alongside free bus services aimed at easing the burden on residents.
Nga also highlighted efforts by the Housing and Local Government Ministry, including the construction of 1,385 Rumah Mesra Rakyat units over four years and the revival of the stalled PR1MA Rantau housing project, allowing more than 700 buyers to receive their house keys.
He said the cooperation between the federal government led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and the Negeri Sembilan state government under Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun represented a strong partnership for the state’s future development.
