Ryan Gosling has officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe after being announced as the new Ghost Rider during Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2026.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige confirmed that the 45-year-old Oscar-nominated actor will take on the iconic role in an upcoming standalone Ghost Rider film.
Speaking on stage, Gosling told fans he had long hoped to play the supernatural antihero.
“As you know, this is a character I’ve wanted to play for a long time,” he said, drawing loud cheers from the audience.
The character was previously portrayed by Nicolas Cage, who starred as motorcycle stuntman Johnny Blaze in 2007’s Ghost Rider and returned for the 2011 sequel, Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.
The new film will be directed by Shawn Levy, who previously worked with Gosling on the upcoming Star Wars: Starfighter and directed Marvel’s blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024.
Levy praised Gosling during the Comic-Con panel, saying the actor was “the absolute best” and revealed the project came together after the two discussed the character while working together.
The upcoming film marks Gosling’s first appearance in a superhero or comic book movie.
Marvel Studios has yet to announce a release date for the new Ghost Rider film.
