UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan has highlighted his previous political predictions, which he said had accurately reflected the outcomes of several state elections, including Barisan Nasional’s (BN) success in the Negeri Sembilan state election.
At the same time, he stressed that BN would continue honouring its agreement to support the Federal Government until the end of the current administration’s term.
Ahmad said his forecasts for BN’s performance in Johor and Negeri Sembilan had matched the actual election results, while the outcome in Johor even exceeded his expectations.
He said he had previously predicted BN would win 45 seats in Johor but the coalition secured 48 seats, while his forecast of 25 seats in Negeri Sembilan was also achieved. He also said BN had successfully retained Melaka as he had expected.
Ahmad, who is also Deputy Works Minister, was speaking after attending the flag-off ceremony for the IJM Allianz Duo Highway Challenge 2026 at Sunway Pyramid on Sunday.
The event saw more than 15,000 runners from Malaysia and 22 other countries participating in its eighth edition, which was held along the New Pantai Expressway (NPE) and Sungai Besi Expressway (BESRAYA).
Commenting on the political cooperation between BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH), Ahmad said the agreement signed only involved the Federal Government and did not cover state administrations.
He explained that states have the freedom to determine their own political arrangements, adding that BN’s cooperation at the federal level would continue despite competition at the state level.
Ahmad also predicted that Sarawak would likely maintain its distance from PH, citing DAP’s position as a major political rival in the state.
He reiterated that BN would continue supporting the Federal Government until the end of the agreed term, unless the Prime Minister decides to call for an earlier general election.
“Competing at the state level while cooperating at the federal level is part of the current political arrangement,” he said.
