Two men have been arrested after allegedly threatening another motorist with a machete following a road rage incident near Senai, Johor, on Monday.
Kulai police chief Assistant Commissioner Tan Seng Lee said the suspects, aged 26 and 30, were arrested in Forest City, Gelang Patah, after police received a report at 8.04am on the same day.
Preliminary investigations found the incident occurred at about 5.50am on the Senai flyover heading towards Senai International Airport.
Police said the case involved four men travelling in a car.
According to investigators, the confrontation began after the complainant repeatedly flashed his high beams at the suspects’ vehicle. The complainant claimed he did so because the suspects had suddenly cut into the right lane at a slow speed, nearly causing a collision.
Tan said the suspects then overtook the complainant’s vehicle before suddenly stopping in front of it on the flyover.
One of the suspects allegedly got out of the vehicle armed with a machete, shouted at the complainant and ordered him to step out of his car.
The suspect also allegedly swung the machete at the front bonnet of the complainant’s vehicle, damaging the paintwork.
Following investigations, officers from the Kulai District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Department arrested two of the four suspects at about 7.10pm the same day.
Police also seized several items believed to be linked to the incident, including a 30cm machete with a black handle, its sheath, a car key, a mobile phone, a white T-shirt, black denim jeans and a black cap.
Urine tests conducted on both suspects returned negative for drug use.
Police are continuing investigations to determine the full circumstances of the incident and to trace the remaining individuals believed to be involved.
The case is being investigated under Sections 506 (criminal intimidation), 427 (mischief causing damage) and 279 (rash driving) of the Penal Code.
