A man who went viral after allegedly attempting to rob a security company’s cash van outside a bank in Bukit Tinggi last month has pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court.
Ahmad Shukri Suhairin, 24, entered the plea after the charge was read before Judge Mujib Saroji.
According to the charge sheet, the accused allegedly robbed a 51-year-old security officer while armed with a revolver, making off with a Mossberg pump-action shotgun belonging to the security company.
The alleged offence took place at about 5.45pm on July 20 outside a commercial bank in Bukit Tinggi.
He was charged under Section 392 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 397, which carries a maximum sentence of 14 years’ imprisonment, as well as a fine or whipping upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Suhaili Abu Bakar requested bail of RM10,000 with additional conditions deemed appropriate by the court.
However, National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) lawyer Rozuddin Muhamed appealed for a lower bail, saying the accused had no fixed income, had only been married for three months, and was suffering from stress, depression and anxiety.
The court granted bail of RM6,000 with one surety and ordered the accused to report to the nearest police station once a month. The case has been fixed for mention on September 14.
The suspect was arrested during a special operation carried out by Bukit Aman CID’s D9 unit in Shah Alam on July 23.
Police also recovered the stolen Mossberg pump-action shotgun, one 12-bore cartridge, an Ekol Lite blank-firing pistol and 48 blank rounds believed to be linked to the incident.
