Woman Rejects Job After Company Allegedly Cuts Agreed Salary From RM2,000 To RM1,800

Date:

A Malaysian woman has gone viral after sharing how she turned down a new job offer when the company allegedly changed her salary and job responsibilities after she had already submitted her resignation.

According to her Threads post, she was initially offered a RM2,000 monthly salary during the interview, with the possibility of a salary review after three months.

Trusting the verbal offer, she resigned from her current job.

However, the company later contacted her via WhatsApp and informed her that her starting salary would instead be RM1,800.

After she explained that she had already resigned based on the agreed salary, the company reportedly agreed to restore the RM2,000 offer. However, it added a new condition that future salary increments would depend on sales performance.

The woman said this raised further concerns as the job scope discussed during the interview did not clearly involve sales, and she later realised she might be expected to find customers and help meet sales targets.

Feeling uncomfortable with the changes, she decided to reject the offer.

Fortunately, she managed to contact her head of department and Human Resources team in time, and her current employer allowed her to withdraw her resignation and remain with the company.

She also revealed that despite requesting an official offer letter before resigning, she was allegedly told it would only be issued on her first day of work.

The incident has prompted many social media users to remind job seekers to obtain, review and sign a written offer letter before resigning from their current employment.
