Two women, including a 73-year-old, were injured after the Proton Saga they were travelling in skidded off the road at Kampung Penampang, Kota Belud, early Sunday morning.
The accident is believed to have occurred at around 6am, when the driver lost control of the vehicle before it veered onto the road shoulder, leaving both occupants trapped inside.
Kota Belud Fire and Rescue chief Elgie Bakuk said the department received an emergency call at 6.08am and immediately dispatched a rescue team to the scene.
When firefighters arrived at 6.30am, members of the public had already rescued both victims from the vehicle.
The two women, aged 38 and 73, sustained injuries and received first aid before being taken to Kota Belud Hospital for further treatment.
The rescue operation, led by Rano Gadol, concluded at 7.14am after firefighters ensured the area was safe.
Authorities have reminded motorists to drive carefully and remain vigilant to help prevent road accidents.
