Police have arrested three local men in connection with the discovery of a man’s body wrapped in a net and dumped in Sungai Tanjung Sembrong, Parit Raja, Johor.
Johor deputy police chief Deputy Commissioner Hoo Chuan Huat said police received a report from members of the public at about 12.30pm on Monday after the body was found floating in the river.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim’s hands and feet had been bound with adhesive tape. The body was also wrapped and secured with a fishing net, while several wounds were found on the victim’s waist and arms.
Police later linked the victim to a missing person report lodged by his wife at 10.09pm on July 29 in Mutiara Rini, Iskandar Puteri.
The victim was identified by his next of kin based on the clothing and personal belongings found with the body.
Following investigations, police from the Johor Criminal Investigation Department and the Batu Pahat District Police Headquarters arrested three local men, aged between 26 and 40, in the Batu Pahat area.
Background checks found that two of the suspects have previous criminal and drug-related records. Police also seized five mobile phones believed to be linked to the investigation.
The suspects have been remanded for seven days until August 10, and the case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Police said the motive remains under investigation but have not ruled out the possibility that the killing was linked to unpaid debts.
Authorities have urged the public not to speculate or spread unverified information that could interfere with ongoing investigations.
