Cashier Jailed Eight Months Over Misuse Of Customer’s MyKad For Diesel Subsidy

Date:

A petrol station cashier was sentenced to eight months in prison and four strokes of the cane by the Magistrate’s Court here after pleading guilty to four charges of misusing a customer’s MyKad number to obtain BUDI MADANI diesel subsidies without permission.

Khairul Haizad Herman, 27, admitted to all four charges after they were read before Magistrate Nur Asyraf Zolhani.

The court heard that the accused unlawfully used the MyKad number of a 48-year-old man to purchase subsidised diesel under the BUDI MADANI programme without the owner’s knowledge or consent at the Petronas Aman Jaya petrol station along Jalan Silam.

The offences were committed on July 26, 2026 at 7.14pm, 7.34pm and 8.30pm, as well as on July 27, 2026 at 9.31pm.

Khairul was charged under Section 403 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of five years’ imprisonment, whipping and a fine upon conviction.

According to the case facts, the victim from Taman Semarak, Tawau discovered the misuse after checking the BUDI MADANI portal on July 30, where he found that his registered diesel subsidy quota had been used without his knowledge.

The online records showed four diesel purchase transactions totalling 43.01 litres at the petrol station between July 26 and 27, resulting in losses amounting to RM99.78.

The complainant told investigators that he had never lost his MyKad and suspected that someone had fraudulently used his identity to obtain the diesel subsidy.

Police investigations later revealed that the accused, who was employed as a cashier at the petrol station, admitted to using the victim’s MyKad number to carry out the four transactions without authorisation.

He was arrested on July 31 at the petrol station to assist with investigations.

During mitigation, Khairul appealed for a lighter sentence, telling the court that he was the sole breadwinner of his family and also cared for his mother, who is battling cancer.

After considering submissions from both the prosecution and defence, the court sentenced him to eight months’ imprisonment and four strokes of the cane.
