The Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) will continue strengthening Malaysia’s electrical and electronics (E&E) sector to ensure the country remains a key player in the global technology supply chain.
Deputy Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Sim Tze Tzin said the E&E sector was among the key industries supporting Malaysia’s position in the global supply chain, particularly in high-tech semiconductors, advanced sensors and telecommunications.
He said rapid technological developments and the growing volume of cross-border trade meant Malaysia needed to continuously strengthen its industrial ecosystem to maintain its competitiveness.
“Malaysia is one of the important nodes in the global supply chain for the electrical and electronics (E&E) sector, high-tech semiconductors, advanced sensors and telecommunications.
“More importantly, the region is home to hundreds of world-class technology manufacturers,” he said in his speech at the Strategic Trade Act 2010 Programme and Customer Day 2026 in Bayan Baru today.
Sim said the programme served as an annual engagement platform between MITI and industry players, allowing both sides to exchange views and address issues affecting the sector.
He added that MITI was also placing greater emphasis on export control compliance to ensure the country’s technology sector and international trade activities continued to develop in an orderly manner.
According to Sim, the platform enables industry players to receive direct guidance on matters including goods classification, permit applications, dealings with licensing agencies and internal audits.
“When the industry takes the lead in strengthening internal compliance systems and works proactively with the Government, we can ensure export control regulations are implemented more effectively,” he said.
Sim, who is also the Bayan Baru MP, stressed that close cooperation between the Government and industry was essential to maintaining Malaysia’s position as a trusted destination for investment and high-impact technology manufacturing.
