The carcass of a wild elephant calf was found by the roadside along the main road leading to Pos Pulat near Kampung Rahmat today.
The animal was discovered at around 9am by a worker from the Nenggiri Hydroelectric Project who was travelling along the route.
A road user, who identified himself as Sulaiman, 35, said he was alerted by a friend about the discovery before heading to the location with several others.
He said they found the young elephant already dead and lying beside the main road leading towards Pos Pulat.
“From what we were told, the elephant calf was discovered by a worker at the Nenggiri Hydroelectric Project site. We do not know what caused its death, and the carcass is still beside the main road leading to Pos Pulat,” he said.
Sulaiman said he was also unsure whether a report had been lodged with the Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) regarding the discovery.
He added that the relevant authorities should conduct an investigation and examination to determine the cause of death of the wild elephant calf.
