A 46-year-old Indonesian man died after suffering severe injuries in a crash involving a bus and a Perodua Viva along Jalan Tuaran-Kota Kinabalu early Sunday morning.
The accident occurred at about 1.25am, with the victim rushed to Queen Elizabeth II Hospital for treatment. However, he was pronounced dead at around 3.50am.
Kota Kinabalu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Shahrudin Mat Husain said preliminary investigations found that the Perodua Viva was attempting to make a U-turn from a slip road when it collided with a bus travelling straight from the city centre towards Inanam.
The car was struck on its left side and dragged for about 15 metres following the impact. The victim sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital by firefighters.
The 34-year-old bus driver was not injured in the crash, police said.
Both vehicles have since been detained for further inspection, while police are also looking for independent witnesses and the victim’s next of kin.
The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. Members of the public with information have been urged to contact investigating officer Inspector Royston Ubak at 016-3130153 or visit the nearest police station.
