30 BN MPs To Remain In Unity Government Until End Of Term, Says Ahmad Maslan

Date:

All 30 Barisan Nasional (BN) Members of Parliament will remain committed to the Unity Government until the end of the current parliamentary term, according to UMNO Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan.

He said the commitment was in line with an agreement signed by BN lawmakers when the Unity Government was first formed.

“ The Prime Minister (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) has stated that he will continue working with UMNO and BN.

“We, the BN Members of Parliament, have also signed an agreement to support the Unity Government until the end of the term,” he said after an event at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tok Jembal here today.

His remarks came after Anwar said at the PKR National Congress in Ayer Keroh, Melaka, on Saturday that BN would remain part of the Unity Government despite pressure from some of its leaders and supporters.

Ahmad said BN would leave it to Anwar, as Prime Minister, to decide when the current parliamentary term should end, whether later this year or next year.

He also clarified that the agreement establishing the Unity Government applies only at the Federal level and does not automatically extend to state governments where BN and Pakatan Harapan (PH) have formed coalitions.

“As far as I remember, perhaps only Penang has an agreement involving the Unity Government. The others do not. That is why the approach in the Johor, Melaka, Sarawak and Sabah state elections is different,” he said.

The clarification comes as political parties prepare for the next election cycle, with the timing of the next general election remaining a key consideration for both government and opposition parties.
