Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stressed that action against misconduct and poor management in any institution should not be turned into an issue of race or religion.
He said such action was necessary to address weaknesses within an organisation, regardless of its background, identity or the community it represents.
Anwar said the same principle applied to action taken over alleged misconduct and management issues involving Lembaga Tabung Haji (TH), stressing that such matters should not be linked to the Islamic image associated with the institution.
“There is an Islamic party leader who said action is always being taken against Malay and Islamic institutions. But action is taken because these institutions are under the government.
“If we identify a problem, we will take action. It should not be turned into a racial or religious issue. We do not ask whether an organisation is Malay-owned or a government company,” he said.
Anwar was speaking at the Prime Minister’s Engagement Session with FELDA’s senior management and managers for 2026 here today.
He said Malays and Muslims should be even more committed to ensuring institutions carrying the Islamic image were managed properly, as such organisations should set an example in terms of management, ethics and values.
On a related matter, Anwar pledged to ensure that investigations into governance and management issues involving the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) would be carried out transparently and swiftly, in line with the decree of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim.
He said the matter was conveyed to him during an audience with the King, who also instructed that firm action be taken against those found to have caused damage to FELDA.
“When I had an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Sultan Ibrahim asked me to ensure that the investigation into FELDA’s governance and affairs is conducted transparently and swiftly, with firm action against those who damaged FELDA because of their greed,” he said.
Anwar warned that the achievements of an organisation or institution could easily be destroyed by reckless and greedy actions if integrity was neglected.
The Prime Minister’s remarks come amid ongoing scrutiny of governance issues involving TH and FELDA, with investigations drawing public attention in recent weeks.
Previously, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang claimed that the controversy surrounding TH had been deliberately amplified by certain quarters because the financial institution carried an “Islamic brand”.
The Marang MP said PAS did not deny that weaknesses or misconduct could exist within the Islamic financial institution, but claimed that more serious problems at other institutions had not received the same level of attention.
