At least 27 people were killed and seven others injured after a truck collided with a minibus carrying passengers to a Christian religious conference in Zimbabwe, according to The Sun UK.
The fatal crash occurred at around 8.30pm local time on the Harare-Masvingo Road two days ago, with local reports indicating that the truck driver was attempting to overtake another vehicle at high speed.
The truck subsequently collided with a Nissan Caravan minibus, causing the vehicle to catch fire. Images shared on social media showed the minibus badly wrecked, with its interior extensively burnt.
The minibus was reportedly carrying members of the African Apostolic Church who were travelling to a religious gathering when the collision happened.
Emergency responders said 23 people died at the scene, while another four succumbed to serious injuries after being taken to hospital.
Seven other people were injured and are receiving medical treatment, although details of their conditions have not been released.
Police have yet to establish the exact number of passengers who were travelling in the truck and minibus at the time of the crash.
The deadly collision has once again highlighted the dangers posed by high-speed overtaking on Zimbabwe’s roads, particularly on busy routes connecting major population centres.
