Malaysians have been urged to embrace the #Malaysia100 vision as a shared national direction, with the aim of building a stronger country to be inherited by future generations when Malaysia reaches its 100th year of independence in 2057.
Yayasan Warisan Ummah Ikhlas and Yayasan Sinar Untuk Malaysia founder Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub said the remaining 30 years represent just one generation, meaning the Malaysia that future children and grandchildren will inherit is already being shaped by the choices and actions taken today.
He expressed concern that valuable time is being lost to disputes involving race, religion and politics, when efforts to strengthen the country’s systems and institutions should instead begin immediately, regardless of political ideology or background.
“We are running out of time. The divisions we see today cannot be passed down to the next generation. Corruption and breaches of trust cannot simply leave us complaining, nor should they be something we negotiate over, normalise or forgive.
“We must have the courage to fight against them. If our institutions are weak, we must restore them immediately. If a system is broken, fix it now. If something is unjust, we must not pretend not to see it or remain silent,” he said in a media statement issued in conjunction with the 69th National Day celebration.
Hussamuddin stressed that building #Malaysia100 should not be seen as a responsibility that begins and ends in Putrajaya. Instead, he said the foundations must start at home by instilling good values in children, teaching them how to deal with differences and encouraging them to choose leaders based on integrity.
He likened national values and leadership to a “baton” that must be passed from one generation to the next, warning that moral and ethical development must progress alongside the country’s physical and technological advancement.
“That baton represents our values, which must be carried with us, no matter how tall our buildings become or how advanced our technology is as we build Malaysia towards 100 years of independence.
“Compassion and integrity for the prosperity of the nation must be developed alongside our physical progress. Otherwise, we may look impressive on the outside while slowly rotting from within,” he said.
He subsequently called on Malaysians from all walks of life to take responsibility for shaping the future of their families, organisations and the country over the next 30 years, stressing that the decisions made today will ultimately become the legacy left for generations to come.
With 2057 still three decades away, the #Malaysia100 vision serves as a reminder that the future of the country is not something to be left for the next generation to repair, but something Malaysians today must begin building together.
