A bar in Thailand has come under heavy criticism after a woman who allegedly failed to settle a bill worth nearly 60,000 baht (RM7,315) had her head shaved as part of an agreement to reduce the outstanding amount.
The incident reportedly took place at a bar in Pinklao, Bangkok, and gained widespread attention after social activist Chalida Phalamat shared details of the case on TikTok.
According to Chalida, bar management told her that the woman was unable to pay after allegedly accumulating a bill of almost 60,000 baht.
The woman was also accused of using a fake identification card to enter the establishment and had allegedly left another venue previously without settling her bill.
Bar staff subsequently asked her to sign an agreement consenting to having her hair cut and shaved for 3,000 baht (RM366), with the amount deducted from her outstanding bill.
However, the unusual arrangement quickly sparked public outrage, with Chalida questioning why the bar had chosen to shave the woman’s head instead of reporting the matter to police.
The bar’s manager later defended the decision, claiming that the woman’s hair was handed over to one of the employees for donation purposes.
However, no further details were provided regarding where the hair was donated or who ultimately received it.
The incident has since triggered debate online, with members of the public questioning whether such an arrangement was an appropriate way to deal with an unpaid bill.
