PAS Youth chief Afnan Hamimi Taib Azamudden attended the Umno Youth general assembly today, returning the visit made by Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh to the PAS Youth muktamar last week.
Afnan was seen at the assembly dressed in a white baju Melayu paired with a green sampin featuring the PAS logo.
The Alor Setar MP had announced a day earlier that PAS Youth would attend the Umno Youth assembly in response to the invitation extended by the Umno wing.
He said the move was intended to promote unity between the two parties.
“That day we invited them to the muktamar, they came. This time, they invited us to PAU, we’re going. For the sake of unity, we’re attending,” Afnan said in a Facebook post.
Akmal had attended the PAS Youth muktamar on Sept 3 alongside around 25 Umno Youth delegates.
During the event, Afnan acknowledged the Umno Youth delegation in his speech and stressed the importance of Muslim unity.
He said unity among Muslims should not be reduced to a slogan or empty rhetoric, but must be demonstrated through sincere action.
The reciprocal visits by the youth wings come as ties between PAS and Umno face renewed attention, particularly over the possibility of closer cooperation between the two Malay-Muslim parties.
