250kg Malayan Tapir Dies After Being Hit By Car In Negri Sembilan

A 250kg male Malayan tapir died after being hit by a car along Km24 of Jalan Seremban-Kuala Pilah near the Terachi police station on Friday night.

The incident occurred at about 10pm, leaving the endangered animal with a fractured front left leg and bleeding from its mouth.

Negri Sembilan Wildlife and National Parks Department (Perhilitan) director Faizal Izham Pikri said the tapir was confirmed dead at about 6.30am on Saturday.

He said the department received a report about the collision and immediately sent officers to the scene to carry out a rescue operation.

“Initial observations found that the animal had suffered a fracture to its front left leg and was believed to have sustained internal injuries,” he said when contacted today.

Faizal said the tapir was given initial treatment at the scene before being transferred to the Jempol Perhilitan office.

He added that the animal’s remains would be disposed of in accordance with the department’s standard operating procedures.
