The Najib Razak Solidarity Fund raised more than RM634,000 within its first three hours after being launched on Friday.
UMNO secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said the fund had collected RM634,562.02 during that period, with members of the public contributing according to their means.
“Masya-ALLAH! In the first three hours since the Najib Razak Solidarity Fund was launched, the collection has reached RM634,562.02.
“Many contributed as little as RM10 and RM50,” he said in a Facebook post.
The fund was launched following the decision by the Federal Territories Pardons Board allowing former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028.
The arrangement is subject to Najib paying a RM50 million fine and complying with the conditions set.
UMNO had earlier initiated the fundraising effort to help ease the burden on Najib in paying the RM50 million fine.
UMNO president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the party hoped its leaders, members, supporters and others who wished to show their support would contribute voluntarily.
Asyraf Wajdi also shared UMNO’s official bank account details for members of the public who wish to contribute to the fund.
