Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has congratulated national women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M Thinaah on winning the bronze medal at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
In a Facebook post, Anwar said the achievement ended Malaysia’s 12-year wait for a women’s doubles medal at the Asian Games.
“Congratulations on the fighting spirit you displayed. May this achievement inspire Pearly, Thinaah and other Malaysian athletes to continue raising the country’s flag on the international stage,” he said.
Pearly-Thinaah, ranked fifth in the world, secured bronze after putting up a strong fight against top seeds Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning of China in the semi-finals.
The Malaysian pair battled for 85 minutes at the Ichinomiya City Municipal Gymnasium before losing 16-21, 22-20, 12-21 to the world number one combination.
Despite missing out on a place in the final, their bronze medal ends Malaysia’s 12-year wait for a women’s doubles medal at the continental Games.
