A 26-year-old man in Singapore has been sentenced to 14 weeks in jail for assaulting his wife despite a personal protection order (PPO) prohibiting him from using violence against her.
According to Shin Min Daily News, the PPO was granted to his wife on June 28, 2022.
On Feb 11, 2025, the man received a message from his wife informing him that their four-year-old son had suffered an epileptic seizure. The couple took the boy to hospital together.
Doctors initially said the child could be discharged after preliminary checks in the emergency department. However, they later discovered a lump on his head that required further examination and decided to admit him.
The development allegedly angered the man, triggering a heated argument with his wife. When she reached out to cover his mouth, he punched her in the mouth.
He was subsequently arrested by police but released on bail.
In a separate incident, the wife learnt from a friend on Nov 27, 2025, that the man suspected her of cheating on him. Angry over the allegation, she asked him to meet so they could discuss the matter.
The pair met at Block 415 Serangoon Central on the afternoon of Dec 27. According to the report, they also had sex in the stairwell before getting into another argument.
When the wife told him she no longer had feelings for him and hoped to marry someone else, the man allegedly grabbed her by the neck and shoved her away in anger.
He also gripped her hands tightly and questioned her aggressively. The woman eventually managed to escape and ran to an MRT station to seek help from staff, after which the man was arrested again.
The man pleaded guilty to two of seven charges, which included voluntarily causing hurt, theft and breaching a personal protection order.
