Dewan Rakyat To Focus On RM20.1 Billion 1MDB Liabilities, BUDI95 Quota Today

Date:

The estimated RM20.1 billion in outstanding net liabilities linked to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB), including assets and claims still being recovered, is among the key issues expected to be raised in the Dewan Rakyat today (28 Oct).

According to the official Parliament website’s Order Paper, Lee Chuan How (PH-Ipoh Timor) is scheduled to ask the Finance Minister how much the government expects to recover from each outstanding claim and the target year for fully settling the liabilities.

Muhammad Fawwaz Mohamad Jan (PN-Permatang Pauh) is expected to seek an explanation for the reduction in subsidised petrol quota under the Budi Madani RON95 (BUDI95) programme from 300 litres to 200 litres before it was increased again from September 1, 2026.

He will also ask the Finance Minister to state the actual fuel subsidy savings recorded so far this year.

Other issues expected to be discussed include data centre operations, road network upgrades following the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project, and measures to address learning loss among students from hardcore poor households.

Young Syefura Othman (PH-Bentong) is scheduled to ask the Works Minister about plans to upgrade federal and state roads in Bentong to accommodate increased traffic following the completion of the ECRL project.

Meanwhile, Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal (PN-Machang) will seek details of the government’s contingency plans to ensure data centre operations do not disrupt public electricity and water supplies during droughts or supply interruptions.

He is also expected to ask about restrictions on data centres’ electricity and water usage during crises, whether the government has designated areas where data centre construction is prohibited, and whether the use of treated wastewater is mandatory.

He will further seek clarification on whether a priority mechanism is in place to address these issues.

Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar (BN-Kinabatangan) is scheduled to ask the government about its strategic action plan to help students facing multidimensional hardcore poverty who continue to experience long-term learning loss.

He will also seek measures to ensure educational exclusion does not further entrench these students in the cycle of poverty.

Following the oral question-and-answer session, the Dewan Rakyat is scheduled to resume the winding-up of the debate on the Supply Bill 2027 by the relevant ministries.
