A foreign man has been arrested after allegedly punching an auxiliary police officer and breaking two of his teeth before damaging casino equipment worth an estimated RM85,000 at Sky Casino in Genting Highlands on Tuesday.
Bentong acting police chief Deputy Superintendent Azmi Mahmod said the incident occurred at about 5am on the casino’s third floor and involved a 34-year-old suspect.
The 32-year-old auxiliary police officer was on duty when he attempted to control the situation and stop the suspect’s actions. However, the man allegedly became aggressive and punched the officer in the mouth, causing two teeth to break.
The victim subsequently sought treatment at Bentong Hospital, Azmi said in a statement on Wednesday.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect was believed to be under the influence of alcohol and had acted aggressively towards members of the public before entering the casino.
The suspect allegedly damaged three gambling machine screens by smashing his head against them, as well as two chairs, resulting in estimated losses of RM85,000.
Azmi added that the suspect also sustained a forehead injury requiring six stitches.
The man was subsequently arrested and taken to the police station to assist with investigations.
Initial checks found that he had no previous criminal record, while a urine test returned negative for drugs.
The case is being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt and Section 427 for committing mischief causing property damage.
Azmi said police were completing their investigation, including recording witness statements, reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and seeking a remand order for the suspect.
He stressed that firm action would be taken against anyone who violated the law, regardless of nationality.
The public was also urged not to speculate about the incident in ways that could interfere with the investigation.
