Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro Leaves For US, Claims He Was Rightful President-Elect

Date:

Brazilian Senator Flavio Bolsonaro said on Wednesday that he had left Brazil for the United States to avoid what he described as the “politicisation of the justice system” in his home country.

The senator also claimed, without providing evidence, that he was the rightful president-elect despite losing the election to incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Flavio Bolsonaro, the son of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro, did not provide further details about his departure in the statement.

His remarks come amid continued political tensions in Brazil following Lula’s victory over his father in the 2022 presidential election.
