Police have arrested three people, including two women, over an alleged vehicle theft syndicate targeting four-wheel-drive vehicles, which is believed to be linked to eight cases in Perak and Kuala Lumpur.
Manjung OCPD Asst Comm Hasbullah Abdul Rahman said the arrests were made at about 5.30pm on Tuesday following intelligence gathering and investigations into the theft of a Toyota Hilux in Taman Mas 2, Sitiawan.
He said police received a report on the missing vehicle at 10.06am the previous day.
During questioning, the suspects allegedly admitted to being involved in eight four-wheel-drive vehicle theft cases, with four reported in Perak and another four in Kuala Lumpur.
“All the cases are believed to have been carried out using the same modus operandi, targeting four-wheel-drive vehicles,” he said.
Police also seized a car key reader believed to have been used to steal vehicles, along with several other items.
The three suspects have been remanded for six days, from Oct 28 to Nov 2, to assist with investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code.
Members of the public with information related to the case are urged to contact the Manjung district police headquarters at 05-6886222 or its WhatsApp hotline at 017-6828005.
