Singaporean Rider Dies After High-Powered Scooter Crashes In Mersing

A Singaporean man was killed after the high-powered scooter he was riding collided with a car at Kilometer 60 of Jalan Batu Pahat–Mersing yesterday evening.

The 4.30pm crash involved three vehicles and resulted in the death of the 51-year-old rider at the scene.

Kluang District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Bahrin Mohd Noh, said investigations revealed that the victim had been riding a Yamaha T-Max scooter from Mersing towards Kluang.

Upon reaching the location, the rider reportedly attempted to overtake a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) on the left side.

“After overtaking the MPV, the scooter lost control and entered the opposite lane before colliding with an oncoming car driven by a 43-year-old man,” he said in a statement.

The victim suffered severe injuries and died on the spot, while the driver of the car sustained injuries to his face, chest and legs and is receiving treatment at Hospital Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom.

The MPV driver, also aged 43, was unharmed.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
