Driver Fined Despite Paying Parking Fee, Wrong Plate Number Sparks Outrage

Date:

A vehicle owner has raised concerns after receiving a parking fine despite having already paid for a full-day parking pass, with the situation further complicated by an apparent error in the vehicle registration number listed on the ticket.

The incident, which took place at around 10.29am on Sunday in Amanjaya, was shared on Facebook, where the owner described the case as a possible enforcement mistake.

According to the post, the individual had settled the parking fee as required but was later issued a fine by the Sungai Petani Municipal Council (MPSPK). What drew greater concern was that the registration number printed on the notice did not match the owner’s vehicle, suggesting a data entry error.

The owner expressed worry that such mistakes could unfairly penalise other innocent motorists whose vehicle numbers may have been wrongly recorded.

“Please ensure enforcement officers input registration numbers carefully. It is unfair for others to bear the consequences of such errors,” the post read.

Although the owner acknowledged the option of ignoring the mistake, he said he chose to highlight the issue out of civic responsibility, urging the council to review and improve its enforcement procedures to prevent similar incidents.

The case has since sparked discussion online, with many netizens questioning the accuracy of enforcement practices. Some suggested that officers often record vehicle details too quickly after a car is parked, and that allowing a reasonable observation period could help reduce such errors.

In response, the Sungai Petani Municipal Council’s official Facebook page acknowledged the issue, stating that corrective action had been taken and offering an apology for the erroneous fine.
