‘That’s All I Could Afford’ — Student’s RM1 Gift Touches Teacher’s Heart

Date:

A heartfelt story shared by a teacher about a student who gifted him RM1 in conjunction with Teachers’ Day recently has touched the hearts of many on social media.

The emotional moment was shared on Threads by a Science teacher known as _Imsyafiq, who revealed that he received a letter from one of his students during a Teachers’ Day gift-giving session.

“Please read the letter later, teacher. There’s some money inside. Sorry if it’s not much,” the student reportedly said while hugging him.

According to the teacher, the student was known for being mischievous and was often scolded during lessons.

Despite that, he admitted feeling deeply moved after seeing the student’s sincere effort to show appreciation and improve academically.

“I felt emotional because I could see how much effort he put into appreciating me as his teacher. I also saw his determination to do better in Science even though he’s considered naughty and sits in the back class,” he shared.

The teacher added that the student’s recent mid-year examination results had shown noticeable improvement, even if only slightly.

Curious about the RM1 gift, the teacher later asked the student why he chose to include money in the letter despite not being expected to give anything.

The student reportedly replied: “I don’t have enough money to buy gifts like the other students. That’s all I could afford. And I only gave it to you, sir.”

The teacher described the gesture as one of the most meaningful moments in his career as an educator.

He said seeing students from the back classes improve their grades — with some even scoring A’s in his subject despite difficult exam questions — was already the greatest gift he could receive as a teacher.
